Несколько дней назад антивирусная компания McAfee обнаружила новый троян Downloader-UA.h, который распространяется весьма оригинальным образом: через фальшивые MP3 и MPG-файлы в пиринговых сетях (e.g. fastmp3player.com).

За последние несколько дней система онлайнового обнаружения зарегистрировала 320 000 случаев заражения этим вирусом. За последние сутки каждое четвёртое вирусное заражение в мире происходило по вине Downloader-UA.h. Судя по всему, отметка в полмиллиона заражённых ПК будет преодолена в течение 48 часов.

Фальшивые файлы на самом деле не содержат никакого медиаконтента, а троян запускает на исполнение инсталлятор PLAY_MP3.exe. Если пользователь принимает условия многостраничного пользовательского соглашения, то на компьютер устанавливается несколько программ. Одна из них (софт производства Minar) скачивает бесплатные MP3, а ещё две занимаются генерацией всплывающих окон во время сёрфинга с помощью браузера Firefox или IE. Всё это предусмотрено условиями пользовательского соглашения.

хоть и пишут, что “распространяется через MP3 и MPG”, все равно в конце концов фигурирует .EXE-ник… no fun… А вот когда/если они “научатся” реально в mp3 вирусы прятать - будет жопа.

Why aren’t you launched yet!

So, following our first delay to May 6th, we’re now switched to “May 2008″.

This is for a multitude of reasons.
Firstly, our (previous) lead programmer liked to keep us guessing by vanishing for days at a time - making it near impossible to communicate any changes to him. I’m not sure if he’s even aware that we’ve switched to Vreel.net. We’re currently working with a highly regarded coder team, in order to avoid any further delays and dissapointment.

Secondly, this thing has literally exploded since we started up - following the green light we got from DivX, we got a huge amount of attention - and a couple of servers based in the US just wasn’t going to cut it anymore. Limelight Networks approached us with a contract with thousands of servers all over the world at 1.8TB/s+ connectivity - which we just couldn’t turn down. This does add on a small workload, and will slightly lengthen the testing process - but we shouldn’t be looking at any sort of dramatic time increase here.

And finally, we’re in the process of speaking with advertisement partners. As any videophile in the world can tell you, streaming HD video eats bandwidth like there’s no tomorrow - and rather than collapse under our own debt within a month, we’d prefer to find a solution which will allow us to run freely, without having to shut down most of our servers, or forcing a paid subscription.

We’d like to further apologise to everyone for the delay - there’s not too long left. Hang in there.

A very fun element to the Custom Con is the occasional team-up, where 2 customizers work together on a line. I am a big fan of the work of a guy named Glorbes. So when we decided to do something together I was very excited. We kicked a few ideas around but we settled on a line that emphasized the WWII elements of Star Wars. So we set the line in that era with the rebels as the Allies and the Empire as the Nazis.

Супружеская пара из американского штата Пенсильвания подала в суд на компанию Google за публикацию фотографий их дома на сайтах интернет-компании. Супруги Аарон и Кристин Боринг отмечают в иске, что Google нарушает их права на неприкосновенность частной жизни и жилища, сообщает агентство AP.

Топографическое изображение дома четы Боринг, находящегося в пригороде Питтсбурга, в октябре 2006 года появился вместе с другими объектами на картах Google с возможностью детального просмотра улиц и домов. Кроме того, в последствии на картографическом сайте появились и фотографии дома, что, собственно, и вызвало негодование жителей.

В своем иске супруги утверждают, что намеренно купили дом вдали от большого города, так как дорожат своей частной жизнью и не хотели бы, чтобы компания Google в нее вторгалась без их ведома.

АР отмечает, что для того, чтобы воссоздать виртуальные виды того или иного рода или улицы Google, как и многие другие картографические компании, ведут натурную сьемку - отправляют на дороги машины, оснащенные камерами, снимающими местность на 360 градусов вокруг них. Данные в результате такой съемки получают довольно четкими, что и вызывает негодование.

На сайте Google указывается, что компания имеет право на осуществления картографических съемок, однако владелец того или иного объекта может потребовать, чтобы его недвижимость была убрана с карт, но для этого у владельца должны быть достаточно веские основания.

В иске супругов также говорится, что Google - это не единственная компания, которая “вторгается в частную жизнь”.

Однако американские юристы отмечают, что суд может как поддержать семью Боринг, так и отказать в иске. Дело в том, что съемка дома велась с улицы, которая является публичным местом и там картографические замеры в любом их виде никак не ограничены, а если на фото попал дом, то это не является нарушением. С другой стороны гражданин США по конституции имеет полное право на неприкосновенность своего дома в любом виде, в том числе и на публичных снимках.

Adobe has upgraded its Flash Player to fix seven vulnerabilities in the graphics and video software widely used for interactive Web pages and banner advertisements.

Adobe classifies the patches as “critical” and advises people upgrade to the latest version, 9.0.124.0. All of the vulnerabilities could allow a hacker to execute code on a machine.

One of the vulnerabilities allowed Shane Macaulay to win a laptop in the PWN 2 OWN hacking contest at last month’s CanSecWest conference in Vancouver.

Macaulay, a researcher with the Security Objectives consultancy, used the Flash flaw to break into a machine running Windows Vista. He later said 90 percent of computers worldwide were vulnerable.

Exploiting vulnerabilities in Flash software has become an increasingly popular vector for hackers to compromise machines for two reasons. Most Web browsers have the Flash Player installed, and malicious banner advertisements — which can achieve wide distribution on Web sites pulling ads from a network — can take advantage of those vulnerabilities.

“These vulnerabilities could be accessed through content delivered from a remote location via the user’s web browser, e-mail client, or other applications that include or reference the Flash Player,” Adobe wrote in its advisory.

If a malicious banner advertisement is widely distributed, a hacker has the potential to take control of many PCs. Lately, these “malvertisements” have been popping up everywhere, wrote Sandi Hardmeier, a Microsoft Most Valued Professional and security blogger.
