Firefox 3.6.4 has finally arrived, and as expected it brings added stability by making Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins run on their own process, so if something goes wrong with them, your whole session will still survive and you will be given an option to reload the plugin.

While Silverlight, Flash, and QuickTime are supported out of the box as they were subject to intense quality control, you can actually run any plugin on its own process. You just need to know the name of the plugin library (which you get from about:plugins),

For example to have the Adobe Reader plugin running on its own process, create a boolean preference in about:config, name it dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.nppdf32.dll, set it to true, and restart. For Java, the preference must be named dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npjp2.dll, and so on.

Conversely, you can disable OOPP for enabled by default plugins by creating and setting their respective preference to false.

This update also includes fixes to four critical and a few other less severe vulnerabilities, so you are strongly encouraged to update right away. Just click on Check for Updates… in the Help menu.

Маленький и весьма полезный такой скриптик для тех, кто регулярно качает что-то с iFolder Автоматически переходит на страницу с таймером (открывая лишь сам фрэйм с таймером), а затем, когда таймер доходит до нуля, открывает страницу с капчей, хоть её и приходится вводить вручную, все равно очень удобный скриптик.

When first download page is opened, it navigates browser to first advertisement proposed. Then it does replace frameset by only timer frame, hiding advert and making it count time from the moment advert loading started (by refreshing it, nice feature).

After timer counts down to zero, automagically navigates (refreshes) to CAPTCHA. Unfortunately, it can’t type it for you. But it installs click-handler on the image, so you can easily change it by clicking on the picture. On final download page, it also emphasizes the download link.

May be especially useful when opening many downloads in tabs.

And they say it’s hard to conquer the browser market. Despite Microsoft’s global domination, there are some places where FirefoxFirefox reviewsFirefox reviews is a vastly dominant browser. One of them is Antarctica; according to StatCounter’s recently added feature, GlobalStats, in 2009, only one browser was used there.

I’m guessing the data comes from one user – and he’s using Firefox.

Много всего написано было про “AwesomeBar“, еще до официального выхода по интернету гуляли различные мнения. Кто-то был(и остаются) без ума от этого нововведения, кому-то оно совершенного не понравилось. Я лично где-то посередине – что-то нравиться, а что-то нет. Вот нарыл несколько способов “поизвращаться” над НиибацаБар-ом. Сам все еще не попробовал…

Начну с самого простого, не требующего особых “усилий”..

Add-Ons

1. oldbar – Oldbar makes the location (URL) bar look like Firefox 2. If you need another alternative to this, try out Old Location Bar. Why two add-ons that do the same thing? I don’t know either.
2. Hide Unvisited – You too can hide pages (bookmarks) that you haven’t visited (since deleting or clearing history) from showing in the AwesomeBar.
3. Enter Selects – This Extension allows you to press enter in the AwesomeBar to select the first result (without pressing down).
4. Hidden Places – Stop URLs from specified domains being added to places and the AwesomeBar.
5. Edit Middle – Show AwesomeBar results when editing in the middle (not just at the end).

If you know someone whose blog features a lot of light text on a dark background, you can forward this link to the visual offender. It’s a special page demonstrating just how much of an eye strain it can be. Maybe we can eradicate this practice one blogspot site at a time.

For now, I’ll be using this bookmarklet which automatically changes any website into black-on-white in your browser. Drag it to your bookmark toolbar to keep it handy.

З.Ы.: Раньше пользовался Disable Stylesheets, букмарклетом из того поста про них с примерами.. Но если сайт сделан через ж№%у, то порой не сразу находишь то, что хотел прочитать, т.к. сайт “рассыпаеться”, а вот Dark Text / Light BG bookmarklet оставляет все на своих местах

Компания Mozilla разработала технологию TraceMonkey, позволяющую в несколько раз увеличить скорость работы JavaScript и веб-приложений при использовании браузера Firefox, сообщается в блоге разработчиков Mozilla.

TraceMonkey уже включена в альфа-версию браузера Firefox 3.1. Однако по умолчанию технология TraceMonkey не доступна, так как еще не полностью отлажена и работает нестабильно. В будущем TraceMonkey станет частью бразуера Firefox, что позволит значительно ускорить его работу.

В частности, в ряде тестов Firefox 3.1 с TraceMonkey работает с JavaScript почти в 40 раз быстрее, нежели Firefox 3. Также тесты показали, что TraceMonkey делает новый браузер Firefox более чем в два раза быстрее Apple Safari при работе с JavaScript.

Ожидается, что TraceMonkey позволит значительно ускорить работу браузера со сложными специализированными веб-приложениями. В частности, было продемонстрировано, что TraceMonkey делает обработку изображений через веб-интерфейс более быстрой.

В настоящее время альфа-версия браузера Firefox 3.1 доступна для скачивания на сайте Mozilla. Разработка TraceMonkey заняла у Mozilla около двух месяцев.

Bookmarklet, в двух словах, это JavaScript, который прописываеться в поле “Location” у Bookmark-a или вместо адреса внутри тэга <a>, и который выполняет какое-то одно действие. Но это лично моё “понимание” того, что они такое. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bookmarklet – там, впринципе, тоже самое написано.

Resize Не трудно, думаю, догадаться, меняет размеры окна на 1024 х 768 Другие (если надо): 800×600 , 1152×864 , 1280×1024 HDTV: 1280×960 , 1280×1024 , 1600×900 , 1600×1050 Resize to… – универсальный resize boolmarklet. * Эти bookmarklet-ы работают только при default-ном значении для “dom.disable_window_move_resize” – “false”

Как сохранять bookmarklets?

1. Просто "перетянув" в "Bookmark Toolbar" (Left click & Hold -> Move to Bookmark Toolbar & Release)
2. Right click -> Bookmark This Link...

Почему именно “Bookmark Toolbar”? Потому что так ими удобней всего пользоваться. По крайне мере, мне так удобней всего. Когда что-то надо – делаю toolbar видимым, когда нет в них надобности – прячу.
